On our testbed engine dyno is a Superior XP IO-360-B1HC2 engine from a VANS RV-7 light aviation aircraft – the actual one in the photo below.
The engine has been subject to an FAA Airworthiness Directive (AD 2020-25-12) – this requires that certain part numbers and serial numbers of crankshafts manufactured by Superior Airparts be retired immediately. This is the third of these Superior XP IO-360 engines that we have overhauled in compliance with the FAA AD so far this year, with another two more in hand and more en route.
Nicholson McLaren Aviation technicians have fully stripped, cleaned, performed non-destructive testing (NDT) and custom painted the overhauled engine to the customers requirements – and most importantly to the manufacturers specifications.
Vitaly, NMA have replaced the crankshaft with a new ‘PRIME’ crankshaft to comply with the FAA directive. Following the rebuild we carry out initial break-in runs and power runs before the engine is released back to service and returned to the customer to be fitted to the Vans RV-7 aircraft.
